Tasty veggie world - Vineland

Tasty veggie world

Organics: Vegetarian culinary delights

Organics is a great local secret for vegetarians, cooks, herbalists and the health concious. In addition to a good collection of herbal supplements, teas and limited selection of organic vegetables, you will find lots of great ready to eat indian, vegetarian and vegan frozen and prepackaged foods, hard to find herbs and spices , bulk whole grains and lots of great juices. The best part is the grab and go deli which has a small but delcious selection of homemade vegan and vegetarian items for lunch including some tasty indian treats (veggie samosas!!!)

What to buy: Veggie samosas, hard to find juices and herbs and spices such as fenugreek and black cumin.

What to pay: slightly less than some other area places

La Hacienda Bakery - Vineland

La Hacienda Bakery

La Hacienda Bakery & Rotisserie: Outrageous Puerto Rican Pastries

La Hacienda is another one of Vineland's best kept secrets!!! Love this place. They make really delicious pastries and baked goods. Oh yum! And in the summer time they sell homemade Puerto Rican ice cream in wonderful tropical flavors. It's sort of a cross between ice-cream and water-ice, I'm not sure what the right name for it is. Try a scoop of the coconut (coco) paired with pineapple (piña.) They don't speak english, so just point at what you want. For pastries I recommend the guava with cheese (guyaba con queso), or pineapple with cheese.

They also have take out hot foods, which I imagine are very good, but I haven't ordered that yet. Can't get past the wicked good pastries and snacks.

What to pay: CHEAP!

Address: 308 W Chestnut Ave

Directions: On the corner of Chesnut Avenue and Third Street in a small strip mall with clay tile roof.

Map of Vineland/Millville shopping corridor - Vineland

Map of Vineland/Millville shopping corridor

Commercial Shopping District, Delsea Drive: The Mall area has all the national chain stores

The Cumberland Mall and the commercial shopping district seamlessly straddles the Millville and Vineland border on Route 47 (Delsea Drive,) so I'll group the stores together. We have the full compliment of all the chain stores that are robbing large towns like Vineland of their character. Normally I would discourage people from supporting chain stores that put locally run stores out of business, but in the case of Vineland I will refrain for 2 reasons. One- there really isn't anything to do in Vineland, so the shopping malls are actually a blessing. Two- Vineland is so economically depressed these stores are pumping much needed money into the economy.

So here's what we've got at the moment:
BJ's Wholesale Club, Home Depot, Lowe's, Boscov's Department Store (nice, upscale), Walmart, K-Mart, Marshalls, Bed Bath & Beyond, FYE (music store), American Eagle Outfitters, Old Navy, Victoria's Secret, Kay Bee Toys, Toys R' Us, Gap, Gap Kids, Bath & Body Works, Spencer Gifts, The Shoe Dept, Foot Locker, Kid's Footlocker, Lady Footlocker, Zales Jewler, Littman Jewler, Hallmark, Champs, Radio Shack, Claire's, JC Penny, and the list goes on.

There are two really good dollar stores in the area. Once is next to Taco Bell, the other is in the Cumberland Crossing strip mall with WalMart.

There are also various eateries in and around the mall, such as Friendly's, Taco Bell, Arby's, Red Lobster, Applebee's, Saladworks, Burger King, Texas Roadhouse, Pizza Hut, Bob Evans and a couple local places. The best local eatery in the mall is the Luca's Pizza. They have the best pizza in Vineland. In the Cumberland Crossing, Taco Fresco has super good mexican and chinese fast food. They also have a few japanese items.

What to buy: Stuff and more stuff.

What to pay: Average prices

Address: 3849 S Delsea Drive

Directions: South Delsea Drive- Vineland/Millville. Take Route 55 exit #27, exits directly into mall parking lot.

Coia's road sign - Vineland

Coia's road sign

Coia's: Beautiful plants & flowers

Having worked in several garden centers in the region, I can tell you with authority, Coia's is the best in the area for overall price, quality and service. They sell the full range of annuals, perennials, biennials, aquatics, garden & pond supplies and some tropicals, houseplants and specimine trees. They also have garden equipment, bulk mulch, pallets of stone etc. There is also a cut florist on the premises.

I shop here frequently and they always treat me well and I always have good success with my purchases.

What to buy: At season's end they have a buy one get 2 free deal on 6" perennials that is unbelievable!
