    Any one who has ever been to Europe knows that there are regional specialties and artisenal items, both foods and handicraft, that are found only in the place in which they are indegenous. Asturias is no exception. She has a tremendous assortment of items of cultural and gastronomic interest which you will be tempted to purchase. Unfortunately most of the food items do not meet export standards (especially to the US) and it is very difficult to *smuggle the authentic stuff out of Spain. Particularly good and of interest to the traveler are Asturias' smoked meats, dairy products, honey, fabes and cider (sidra.) Unfortunately it is impossible to get the really good quality stuff over the border. You will have to satisfy yourself with the pre-packaged vaccum packed sealed tourist boxes soley intended for export. These items are not of the highest quality, but a year later when you find yourself pining away for Asturias, you can break out the box of goodies and they will still be good to eat.
