Philippines - Most fun in Asia

by crewrower - last update: Dec 22, 2008

Philippines is where it's at

Arrival at airport in Bohol
My trips to the Philippines:

January 2009 (planned) - Cagayan de Oro, Camiguin, Manila
December 2007 - Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete, Siquijor
December 2006 - Manila, Boracay
February 2005 - Manila, Tagaytay, Cebu island, Bohol
June 1998 - Manila, Tagaytay
July 1997 - Manila
January 1995 (for the World Youth Day) - Manila, Tagaytay

The Philippines is the first country I ever visited, and 14 years later and lots of subsequent travel, is still my favorite travel destination. The Philippines does not have the culinary excellence of Japan or China or the developed tourist industry like Thailand, but it really makes up for that in its own way. If you are in Manila or any other town, find out if there are any celebrations or fiestas, especially small ones in the barios. It's great fun.

Philippines Christmas 2007

Philippines * Christmas *

In what may be becoming a tradition, I will spend my second consecutive Christmas in the Philippines. The plan is to go with a certain lady friend from China, arrive in Cebu (via Manila) from Shanghai on the morning of Dec 25th. We'll have 6 days in that region, and our last day (the 31st) will be in Manila.

In February 2005 I did a similar trip to Cebu and Bohol. Bohol was utterly fantastic, and so I could easily be lured back there this time. Other places of interest are perhaps northern Cebu (I did southern Cebu (Moalboal and others) on the last go), and hopefully the waterfalls and beaches of nearby island of Sequijor.

If you have any suggestions of what to do in and around Cebu, please share. We'll be in Cebu from all of Dec 25-30, flying to Manila early on Dec 31, and back to Shanghai late on Dec 31.
