If you're in Ottawa on a weekend, chances are there are some live bands playing somewhere... Try to find one playing some celtic/irish music.. everyone will be cheering and smacking their beer glasses on the tables.. Pretty soon everyone will be dancing..it's a wild time!

  • Nightlife Spot: Patty Bolans Pub

Patty Bolands is a really good irish pub in the market. It has live music, cheap drinks, and lots of laughter..

  • There are many, many places to unwind in Ottawa. The byward market area is full of pubs. My favourites are The Heart and Crown (Celtic/Irish bar), Minglewoods (three level bar) and Patty Bolands.
These bars have a great atmosphere, and are full of friendly people. Beer isn't that cheap, but with no cover charge, you can't expect beer for next to nothing.

  • Nightlife Spot: Gracies

Grace O'Malleys is one of those places that words do not do justice to. I'm not sure what creates those places, be it fate, chance, or shear luck, but Gracey's is one hell of a bar. Friendly waitresses, good food, tons of beers, and live entertainment. You can't go wrong here.

The Heart and Crown: Lose your Heart
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: The Heart and Crown

The Heart and Crown is also a really good pub on Clarence street.. It's probably the largest one, in terms of the number of occupants (it does way into the back, and downstairs as well).. You'll usually be able to catch some live bands here during the weekends.

Byward Market: Mingle down in the Market
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nightlife Spot: Minglewoods

Minglewoods, located on York street in the Byward Market, was the very first bar I ever went to in Ottawa. It's a really wicked place, spanning four floors. The bottom floor has phones and the bathrooms, the main floor usually has a live band, floor seating, and a bar, the second floor has pool tables and couches, while the upper floor has a big dance floor for Friday and Saturday nights..

Whatever your fancy, you'll satisfy it here..

Barrymore's is a concert hall turned bar located on Bank Street. It's a great place to see shows: I saw Gob here, Treble Charger, Kilt, and Eve 6.

Sunday night at Barrymore's is 80's night, and it's very popular. Line ups start eary in the evening.
