Kitsilano: Head down to Kits

  • There are several trendy areas in Vancouver, but Kitsilano is probably the most popular one amongst the younger, university crowds. In Kitsilano (usually shortened to "Kits" by the locals), you'll find several streets of coffeeshops, restaurants and bars (Arbutus and Yew are two major streets). At the North end of Arbutus you'll find Kits beach, along with Cornwall Avenue (which runs parallel to the beach, and eventually intersects Burrard Street).

  • Tip Rating:
  • Go up to Whistler and ski, bike, or just have a few beers.
The best ski-resort in North America, and one of the best in the world. I'm fortunate to have grown up in this part of the world. People are amazed when I tell them I've been to Whistler 5 or 6 times, and have yet to ski there.. I spent New Year's Eve there last year, and it was so awesome!

Things To Do: Visit Vancouver in the Winter!

  • Vancouver in the winter is amazing.. it's practically the only place in Canada where you can spend Christmas without sub-zero temperatures. Fortunately, the snow line comes down far enough to make Vancouver very picturesque.

Although I do appreciate the odd snowfall in the wintertime, it is very nice to not have to go out and shovel the driveway everyday!

UBC (University of British Columbia): The University of British Columbia
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you're in Vancouver, make sure you head to Point Grey, and check out the University of British Columbia (UBC).

UBC is situated right on the ocean, and sports some of the most fantastic views in the Vancouver area. All the foilage around UBC is located in the University Endowment Lands (UEL). In the UEL, you'll find dog trails, bike trails, running paths, and nature trails. When I was training for the Sun Run, I used to go on nice long runs on the various trails within the UEL.

  • If you walk to the North end of the University of British Columbia, you'll eventually be rewarded with am amazing view of the North Shore mountains. If you visit in the summer, or late spring, you can view the roses in the rose garden.

Many of the workers on campus come ot the rose garden at noon to eat their lunch.

    Things To Do: A & B Sound
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you like music, then you've come to the right city. Vancouver is definitely one of the cheapest locations in North America to buy music CDs.

A & B sound is one of the oldest music stores in Vancouver. My favourite location is close to Seymour and Robson Street. The average price of a new CD here is around $12 CAD ($8 US).

    GM Place: GM Place
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you're downtown, then try and catch a peek inside GM Place, Vancouver's newest Sports Arena. GM Place is the home of the Vancouver Canucks (go Canucks go!), and is one of the nicest arena's in North America.

If you're in town, try to catch a Canucks game, or see a concert here.
