The
Guinness World Records Museum is one of the many museums and attractions that line Clifton Hill in the ultra touristy town of Niagara Falls.
Having visited the Falls, I was looking for something to do to kill the time while waiting for my bus back to Toronto....and this museum looked as interesting as any of the others!
I paid
12.80 CAD (February 2006) for a ticket and spent about an hour inside the museum reading about the various unbelievable feats that people have undertaken in order to claim their place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The museum is not particularly large, with the exhibitions housed on two floors. However, many of the exhibitions take the form of narrative descriptions and facts and so they don't take up much space. Consequently, there is a lot of information contained within this small museum.
The various records are split into categories within the museum. For example, you can read facts, take part in interactive activities and see video footage on records in the following categories:
Entertainment: for example, the most Oscars won for a film or an actor;
Music: for example, the most number one hits or the most albums sold by an artist;
Sport: for example, the most gold medals won or goals scored by a sportsperson;
Weather extremes: for example, the hottest, coldest, wettest and driest conditions ever recorded on Earth;
Eating feats: for example, the most hotdogs or eggs or chocolate bars consumed in a given time period;
People: for example, the world's tallest, fattest, heaviest, shortest man/woman;
Animals: for example, the world's fastest, deadliest, oldest creatures.
One of the World Record holders was the CN Tower (which I had visited a couple of days earlier) - the world's tallest free-standing tower!
You can return to the museum for a second time for the discounted price of 5 CAD within 2 days of your original ticket purchase if you so wish. Just keep your receipt and present it when you return.
