Niagara Falls, Canada

Horseshoe Falls on a winter's day
Where?

The town of Niagara Falls, internationally renowned for its two famous waterfalls, is located on the shores of Lake Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Niagara Falls lies just a 90 minute coach journey south of Toronto and a slightly shorter journey north of Buffalo (New York State, USA).

Rainbow Bridge connects the Canadian side of Niagara Falls with the USA side of the Falls.

How to get there?

Niagara Falls is linked by buses to a number of cities and towns in Ontario.

I arrived in Niagara Falls on a bus from the central terminal on Bay Street in Toronto. The journey time to the Falls is approximately 90 minutes and the cost of a same day return ticket with Coach Canada is 35.68 CAD. The same bus continues across the USA border to Buffalo and ultimately to New York.

Note that if you take a bus from Toronto to the Falls, some buses go to "Niagara Falls" while other buses go to "Casino Niagara" and "Fallsview Casino". If you get a bus that only goes to Niagara Falls (as I did), then you'll be dropped off at the main bus terminal in town. From the bus terminal it is a 20-30 minute walk (or 2 minute bus ride: 2.25 CAD) to Clifton Hill and the Falls.

If you catch a bus that goes to one of the casinos, you'll be dropped off at a more central location - but apparently you cannot take luggage on these buses.

Prices correct at February 2006: (1 GBP = 2 CAD = 1.5 Euros)

Excellent tips and photos of your Niagara Falls visit!! The only time I was there was also in the winter (March, 1977) but I missed out completely on those interesting attractions that you pointed out.
