Sopot

The beach resort town of Sopot lies 12km from Gdansk on Poland's northern coastline.

It can be reached by regular train connections from the two neighbouring cities of Gdansk and Gdynia. The closest airport is Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, a 20 minute taxi ride (circa 50 Zloty) away.

Huge numbers of tourists are attracted to the town in the summer months, attracted by the long sandy beach and the numerous bars, cafes and restaurants that line the town's main pedestrian street, Bohaterow Monte Cassino.

The town's pier (the "Molo") is the longest wooden pier in Europe, stretching as it does 645m into the Baltic Sea. The pier (entrance fee: 2.50 Zloty) makes for a pleasant stroll at any time of day or night, and boat trips to Gdansk, Gdynia and Hel leave from the end of the pier.
