  • I stayed at City Walk Hotel for 2 nights in April 2006.

I paid 50 AUD per night for a standard single room with shared bathroom.

    Location

This hotel is located just a couple of minutes walk from the Jollimont Centre bus terminal, making it very convenient if you are travelling to and from Canberra by coach. I arrived early in the evening from Melbourne and departed for Sydney early in the morning two days later. The hotel was therefore in the perfect location to minimise my travelling and maximise my free time in the city.

Just a few minutes walk from the hotel is Gareda Place, with the best selection of bars, restaurants and shops in the city. A word of warning: the hotel is located directly above King O'Malley's Irish Pub. This is great if you fancy a few beers in the evening.....but causes problems if you want to get to sleep before 3am! I stayed in the hotel on the weekend of a public holiday, so the noisy music and crowds of revellers kept me awake for much of the night.

    Hotel

The hotel caters mainly for budget travellers who are looking for a cheap place to stay in a central location and with no unnecessary frills.

The hotel's many rooms, with shared bathroom facilities, are housed on 5 floors. There are lifts to transport you to the upper floors.

The hotel's reception closes at 10pm. After this time, you can access the hotel with an access code that you will receive from the receptionist upon checking out.

No breakfast is included in the price, but there is a cafe on site from which breakfast can be purchased. There is also a self catering kitchen, a common room and a laundry room. Luggage storage is available at the hotel.

    Unique Qualities: .

    Bedroom

My standard single room was clean and comfortable, but offered only the very basic furnishings that you would expect from such a budget hotel.

My room contained a single bed, a large wardrobe, cupboards, a desk, a chair, a waste bin, an electric fan, a washbasin, a towel and some soap. A clean towel is provided each day. There were plenty of electrical sockets in the room. The room did not contain a TV, a telephone, a fridge or air conditioning.

The shared bathroom facilities consisted of spotlessly clean shower cubicles and toilets, and were adequate for the number of rooms sharing them.

A good value budget hotel in a very convenient location!
