Mamam Beach

Mamam Beach lies on the north coast of Pulau Ubin, about 3km north-east of the jetty and the main town and about 1km east of Noordin Beach.

The beach can be reached on foot or by bicycle without leaving the main paved road (this is the route that I walked along), but there is also a short-cut by leaving the main road and following a dirt track (a left turn off Jalan Ubin before you reach Murai Hut).

As with Noordin Beach, the beach is untidy and the sea is murky and sunbathing or swimming there are not very appealing (despite the guidebook suggesting these as activities to enjoy there). In fact, parts of the water are fenced off with warning signs telling people not to enter.

There are no huts at Mamam Beach at which to enjoy a picnic, but there are toilets close to the beach.

When I visited the beach there were a large number of men camping at one end of the beach - probably from the neighbouring National Police Cadet Corps Campsite.

There were also an inordinate number of hornets buzzing around all over the sand. Hardly a tropical paradise!

Noordin Beach

Noordin Beach lies on the north coast of Pulau Ubin, about 3km from the jetty and the main town.

It can be reached on foot or by bicycle without having to leave the main paved road on the island.

The guidebook states that it is a nice place for sunbathing, swimming or having a picnic, but in truth the beach is dirty and litter-strewn and the sea is murky. I certainly wasn't tempted to go swimming there.

If you're going there for a picnic you'd be better off eating in one of the huts near the beach - there are two to choose from: Kedidi Hut and Chamar Hut.
