SEYCHELLES - my Synonym for Paradise! Years ago, we could not imagine at all to really go there and be able to afford this paradise. Well, we did it for our "Silver-Wedding-Anniversary-Honeymoon".
It is one of the last paradises in the world - what I can judge from my state of knowledge so far. A relatively expensive but absolutely wonderful piece of world! And they know it! And if you can afford it - don't miss it out, this wonderful peace of world! Go there (as soon as possible, as prices do increase even more and steadily, I understand), see and "feel" it at least once in your life! It's absolutely great!
The high prices are somewhat understandable, considering that they have to literally IMPORT everything an average tourist expects!
And they have to pay these goods in a "strong" currency !
That's obviously the main reason, I assume, why "we" are only allowed to pay in one of these "strong" currencies in their restaurants etc. etc. (this fact occured very strange and annoying to me when I started my plannings, i.e. that it obviously should not be possible to pay in their own currency, i.e. with Seychelles Rupees! But - on the other hand - which trading partner outside Seychelles would in fact accept Seychelles Rupees? Well, from this point of view, I understand their "strange" policy now)!
We arranged this individual tour via "Dreamtours" (in Germany) - a small travel organizer specialising on Seychelles only! They offered the largest range of guest houses of all agencies at that time and were the best pricewise. Hotels, we found, were much too expensive (well, for us) and the guest houses are to be found in all different categories and rates, really nice and cosy ones and really well kept and - most important - relatively "affordable"! In fact we listend to people at one of our neighbour tables one day, who obviously stayed in one of these big, expensive hotels, discussing the "pros" for staying in a guest house next time: simply for reasons of cosyness and getting treated more individually and less expensive!
We did Island Hopping (Praslin, La Digue and Mahe). We landed on Mahe, flew directly on with one of these small "Island Hoppers" to Praslin (6 nights), then took the ferry to La Digue (6 nights), took the ferry again back to Praslin and "hopped" back to Mahe (8 nights - 3 in Koko Villa in the mountains and 5 in the Augerine, directly at the beach!).
If I had the chance to go back there once again, my first choice would be La Digue. We would spend only 2 to 3 days on Praslins and the rest on Mahe. But of course this is totally up to taste. I met and read reports from people, who loved Praslin best!
We found that end of May/beginning of June seemed to be a very good time to travel there, as there were even fewer tourists, probably due to the fact, that this time of the year Europe's "high season" starts and most of "us" seem to decide for a European destination then !? Well, anyway, I assume there are actually not really masses of tourist at any time of the year ! I can hardly imagine any of their beaches getting as packed as most beaches in Italy, Spain etc. ... ;-) !).
