Ko Lanta - An Island not yet too Touristy

by Sunchild - last update: Feb 12, 2005

Great Beaches, Relaxing Athmosphere, Nice People

Well, during preparation of our travel plans for a visit to Malaysia /island Langkawi, I realized that the Thailand border was not far away and that a stay on Ko Lanta would fit very well into our travel plans indeed and make this holiday even more interestingl.

The only "problem " seemed to be to arrange the transportation from Langkawi to Ko Lanta. This was not possible via German Travel Agents at the time. So we had to leave that to the time being and arranged it very easily with a Langkawian travel agent (there are so many of them along the roads). They do these transfers in cooperation with Thailand travel agents and it was not expensive at all (see my transportation tip).

Ko Lanta is a lovely island what landscape and beaches are concerned. The infrastructure is not yet too well (their roads were awful ;-) - I must admit), although they have telephone facilities now and their hotels are at good standards - from no star up to 5star ones. The best thing was, that we had the feeling that Ko Lanta was not yet too touristy - but that may have been a result of the season we stayed there - beginning of December. We were told, that from Christmas onwards, the beaches get more crowded and the hotels very much more expensive.

Again we found out, that booking a hotel via an travel agent was less expensive than just turning up there and pay them directly.
