Bergen is the gateway to the norwegian fjords, one of the world'most spectacular tourist attractions. It is surrounded on three sides by seven hills and is famous by its charm and atmosphere. Bergen is the only city in the world surrounded by 7 fjords and 7 mountain.
Bergen was founded by Olav Kyrre, King of Norway between 1066 and 1093 which became the city the capital of Norway in the 13th century. Bergen was the largest norwegian city for six centuries.
Nowadays Bergen has an area of 465 sq km and more than 230000 inhabitants. The city of Bergen is a designated World Heritage city.
