Paris in December, city of lights

by wctryltd - last update: Dec 17, 2003

Paris - city of light

Paris in December - streets filled with lights in the evening, twinkling, glittering ornaments, the dame de fer towering over all - offering up a blazing light show each hour through the dark nights. Happy couples shopping into the long night, slipping into small warm restaurants after a long day of walking, cold Kir followed by a hot meal. Metro's packed with students, old folks, tourists and business people - cool pointy shoes, beautifully dressed men and women - a melange of body shapes and styles. political questions and answers - subway conversations on literature - the 70 year old women who instead of telling me how to find an address walked with me there - talking about her love of american movies with me on the way. All the time savoring the french language - the wonderful parisian accents - rolling the words on my tongue like a fine wine to try and learn the pacing. pouvez vous m'aidex? A cab ride at 2:00am to the monte martre - lunch in the luxembourge gardens - the old lady in luxurious silk and jewels who kepts looking at my friend and i while we were eating lunch - enjoying our appearance and my crazy french. telling the chocolate lady that 'i was complete' when she asked if i wanted more - which turns out to mean approximately "i'm not an amputee". Making plans to return soon...

Good info. on the subway system. St Cloud is pronounced "clue" not "clow". Sorry, I could not resist the correction :-)
