my favorite time of year - apples ripen, leaves turn burning red and orange, crisp air and beautiful stars. Hard to beat in my opinion. This was taken looking toward Mt. Mansfield from pleasant valley road - a wonderful drive in vermont. |

On the edge I live right on the edge of the world - turn right and head towards burlington and soon you leave behind the farms and open spaces and become lost in houses, traffic and development. Turn left, and you enter vermont of old - working farms, open spaces and enough room to think. |
climbing - the only time i move gracefully... Rock climbing has been one of my two real passions for years now - i don't understand bars or nightclubs very well - so when i travel i always bring my climbing shoes and a harness - there are some great climbing gyms i've checked out - from amsterdam to stuttgart. | | |
morning commute rush hour for my morning commute (if you look closely you'll see one other car coming toward me...) |
strange travel plans Over the years I've been to some of the popular European cities and all travelled all over the US - climbing and skiing back in the day. Currently I do a lot of biz travel - throughout the US and Western Europe - I get to england several times a year, with a few trips to amsterdam, paris and germany (essen) thrown in for good measure. I'm a big proponent of learning the language of the country you will be visiting - not only does it respect the people of your chosen destination - it also opens up a great range of opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise have (like playing bocci ball with the italian pensioners on the beaches of rimini for instance). My family used to live in Belgium- I speak bad French and even worse Italian (and no German or Spainish to speak of - although I'm trying...) Traveling is awesome - I just wish I could learn to sleep on airplanes, hotels etc. I've got the worlds longest list of all night pool halls and 24 hour eateries from around the world - not to mention a fondness for 2:00am TV shows on bbc (sumo wrestling anyone?). -bill |
sheep farming sheep farming used to be a large industry in vermont. today the price of vermont wool is so low it is difficult to make a living at it. This is one of the few remaining sheep farms in chittenden county. |
Dinner's Dunn just over smugglers notch from stowe is my favorite restaurant for breaksfast and lunch. Located in the middle of jeffersonville - easy to find - since the middle of jeff is only one street... |
early settlers vermont was a hard place to live in the early years - entire families were wiped out by illness - or were forced to leave after failing to bring in a successful crop. Many graveyards are full of stones for children who died all too young. |
