BEAUTIFUL PENANG ISLAND Is strange that I do not build a Penang Page until now. Well, Penang is my hometown. My parents' and siblings' too. All my relatives are there.
I used to go back to Penang twice every year during my schooling days. Whenever I step on Penang, the only thing I would chase for, THE FOOD! I love Penang Laksa and the Curry Mee too. Anyway, there is a difference between the 2.
What really amazes me is (still is) that I can differentiate a person from the north (Penang) and a person from somewhere else just by speaking with them in Hokkien.
Penang Hokkien (Hokkien is the most widely spoken Chinese dialet in Penang) and the "normal" Hokkien are different. If you understand both, how do you say chicken rice for instance? Penang Hokkien - Ke-Pui Normal Hokkien - Kuey-Png
Gees. So weird, right? According to mum and dad, the Penang Hokkien has a lot of "Malay flavour", similar to Medan, Indonesia. |
