I spent New Year 2000/2001 there.
Amazing. Stayed in the back end of beyond in a little bungalow in Chwaka on the east coast.
Stone Town (the capital) is great with a very Arabic feel (used to be ruled by the Sultan of Oman), partic the food market by the port every evening. Interesting, if very worn, architecture.
The locals are very poor but for tourists it's not cheap! |
