This is the place where I was born. Although I haven't lived here since I was 5, I have been back on many occasions.

The country is much safer since the end of the civil war, but as always, when traveling in a foreign land, you must be alert and not do foolish things that may get you into trouble. Driving is the best way to get around. All you have to do is rent a car (no 4x4 required) at the local car rental company, which should be arranged ahead of time to get the best price. Then, grab a good map and explore!! (more info in the Transportation section) If driving makes you feel disconnected from the locals, then the bus system is another fairly reliable and very cheap way to get around.

I went there last year and loved it. It is so scenic especially Lago de Atitlan and places like Antigua are very nice. More pages please!
