Despite it's reputation as the infamous sin-city of Europe, where hashish is smoked openly and hookers put themselves on display in store windows, Amsterdam is a beautiful cosmopolitan city rich in history. Large numbers of beautiful tree-lined canals are bordered by streets with rows of narrow, gabled houses and 17th-century warehouses, making Amsterdam an architectural treasure-house. With just under 740,000 inhabitants, about the size of my home town of San Francisco, Amsterdam is much smaller than many European capitals, but as a result, it is much more manageable to explore on foot or, like the locals do, on bike. |

Whether you visit for the anything goes atmosphere or for the architecture, the museums, the canals or the bike friendly streets, you will soon find yourself falling in love with the city, and you'll find it very difficult to leave. |

ozalp Tue Jun 19, 2007 06:44 UTC How lucky you are! Rijksmuseum was under construction when I was there. Useful page. Greetings from Istanbul. | middelburrug Wed Nov 15, 2006 12:55 UTC Just thought I'd let you know the Dutch Wikipedia claims the NEMO building looks like a boat by accident. It is built on the foundations of the tunnel underneath it and is the mirror image of the tunnels entrance | pabertra Mon Jan 24, 2005 01:22 UTC Great photos and tips on Europe's sin city! I have a feeling the red light district is similar to the one in Antwerp. Great tip about the houseboats, that might be an interesting place to stay! Best, Paige | bpacker Tue Sep 14, 2004 01:38 UTC Hi there and thanks for dropping by my hcmc page. I can't help but check out your views on amsterdam. Great pg u got here!
