Italy Itinerary

Our whirlwind trip though Italy was an experience I’ll never forget. The Italian people were some of the nicest people I have ever met (except for the train ticket vendors-for some reason, we never had any luck with them).

Below is our itinerary. Feel free to click on the links and browse through my various pages. I hope you enjoy your “virtual tour!”

Our 17 day itinerary

Day 1
Fly from San Francisco to
Rome

Days 2 to 4

Rome, Vatican City

Days 5, 6 and 7
Train to Sorrento stopping in Naples. Day in Naples. Stay in Sorrento with day trips to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast stopping in Amalfi and Ravello.

Vernazza in Cinque Terre

Day 8
Morning train to Siena.

Day 9
Siena

Day 10
Travel by train to Cinque Terre via Pisa (a three hour stop in Pisa to see the leaning tower and the cathedral was enough time. The tower was not yet open.)

Day 11
Stay in Monterosso al Mare in Cinque Terre-Short morning train to Riomaggiore and hike through the five towns back to Monterosso al Mare. Spend the afternoon at the beach.

The five towns of the Cinque Terre (from south to north):
1. Riomaggiore 2. Manarola 3. Corniglia 4. Vernazza
5. Monterosso al Mare

Days 12 and 13
Morning train to Florence. Day in Florence.

Days 14 and 15
Morning train to Venice. Day trip to Murano. Day in Venice.

Day 16
Morning train to Milan. Afternoon and evening in Milan.

Day 17
Fly home to San Francisco

I love the idea of describing your itinerary before travel tips, sometime an itinerary can give many more ideas than single isolated tips.
