The Amalfi Coast

Half the fun of going to Amalfi is the trip itself. With Sorrento as our home base, we took a day trip south along the Amalfi Coast to Ravello. From Ravello we returned down to Amalfi before heading back to Sorrento in time for dinner. This is one incredibly beautiful bus ride. We made sure we sat on the right side of the bus to get the best views of the Mediterranean from the road on the cliff, 5oo feet above the water. Those on the other side of the bus really missed out!

Directions: ...at the Sorrento train station and boarded the blue "Sita" bus right in front. If I'm not mistaken, the buses come twice an hour all day.

Cathedral of St. Andrew

The Cathedral was built in the ninth century and enlarged in 990, when doge Mansone III, received "the promotion and elevation of this Episcopal church to metropolitan status" from Pope John XV.
It's present architectural structure was completed in 1203.

After the collapse of the facade on December 24, 1861, The atrium and entire facade were rebuilt by Enrico Alvino, with the collaboration of Domenico Morelli.
The facade, inaugurated in 1891, is in a style reminiscent of Norman Campania architecture.

Directions: The church is located at the begining of the maid drag. it is on the right as you go up the street away from the bus terminal.
