Day 11 (see my Italy page for our full itinerary) Monterosso al Mare was our home base for the Cinque Terre region. It was not our first choice. We really wanted to stay in Vernazza, which we had heard was the prettiest. As it turned out, Monterosso al Mare was just fine. It may not be as pretty or as secluded as the other towns, but it has a character all of its own. Monterosso al Mare most resembles a typical Italian Riviera town with its hotels and a nice beach. The difference is that it is much smaller and much less crowded. |
