Day 6 (see my Italy page for our full itinerary)
On a summer morning in 79 AD, Pompeii was buried after an unexpected and dramatic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius. The result is one of the world's best-preserved towns of Ancient Rome.
An estimated 2,000 people were literally buried alive as the city was covered by 30 feet of ash.

Strange spelling of Pompei. Why double i?
Hi! I really enjoyed your tips & fantastic photographs of this intruiging place. Thanks for sharing your insights. Greetings from Dubai :-) Jess
Thanks for such a great informative page!
Great tips. I visited Pompeii as a teen in a whirlwind trip. From your pages its clear I missed a lot by not seeing Naples or the Amalfi coast. Oh well, one more thing to add to the Places to Go List. Well done.
Very fine page. I wish that I had visited Pompei. Your photos are excellent.
Pompei is indeed a must see, thanks for sharing with us.
Mount Vesuvius looks like a drown picture. I am always interested to know about Pompeii. Thank you.
Great page! I found Pompei (and Efesos in Turkey) the best ruins I have ever visited. Ancient "Fast Food" looked quite different than nowadays' ones :-)
we stayed in Sorrento 18 years ago now we have just stayed in Scala )opposite Ravello) loved all these places too.
great infos and wonderful pics ! Pompeji is the most interesting place in Italy !
