Riomaggiore, the southernmost town of the Cinque Terre, is at the beginning (or the end) of the five town walk. Since we stayed in Monterosso al Mare, the furthest town to the north, it made sense for us to take the train down to Riomaggiore and walk back to Monterosso al Mare where we could head directly to the beach.

Great page on the most beautiful coast of Italy. Not very crowded, and without traffic - unbelievable but true!
