Day 8 (see my Italy page for our full itinerary)
Our trip was half over now. A week had passed since our visit to Rome and the Pantheon. With visions of the Amalfi Coast still fresh in our minds, our next stop was the picturesque Tuscan town of Siena.
Traveling is about making choices. With the easiest train connections from Sorrento, choosing Siena as our one-and-only Tuscan hill town destination was not difficult. The towers of the nearby town of San Gimignano and the Basilica of St. Francis in the town of Assisi would have to wait for our next visit.

Happy Birthday. I enjoyed your Italy page ( Sienna) and will try to look at more in the future! Wayne
I love the cathedral in Sienna. I think it may be the most unusual & gorgeous in Italy. Thanks for the memories of this beautiful little city.
I hope those folks that are "chillin in the plaza" aren't laying in Pigeon Poop! The medieval street plan sure must make for some great wandering!!
Sienna looks gorgeous, definately somewhere to keep in mind for whenever I return to Italy:)
It is a gorgeous place isn't it!! I loved climbing that tower!!
Nice work, I'll be back for more
Siena is marvelous, great pages, I wish I had climbed the tower!
I agree with you that this is a "must see" in Toscana. I recall visiting several small cities and this was my favorite! -- Greg
hope to visit this city in August
must check this out - thanks for the tips!
