Happy to be on the train; sad to be leaving Venice

Take the Train!!

We love the trains!! They are truly the way to travel in Italy. Venice is easily reachable from everywhere, and there are direct connections to and from Milan, Rome and other popular Italian destinations. If you plan your itinerary carefully, you will never spend more than three to four hours on a train.

For ideas on an Italian travel itinerary, visit my Italy page at the following web site:

The Elevator at St. Mark's Square - Venice

The Elevator at St. Mark's Square

Ride The Elevator to the Top of the Tower

Ride the elevator to the top of the bell tower at St. Mark's Square. Yes, that's right. I said "elevator"! This bell tower actually has one. For more information see my "Must See" tip.

Delivery Boat - Venice

Delivery Boat

Delivery Boat

If you disguise yourself as a soft drink, you might catch a lift on one of these.

It is so fascinating to see everything we see normally on our city streets such as taxis, police vehicles and delivery vehicles here in the forms of boats.

Police "Cruiser"

If you misbehave while in Venice, you might have the privilege of taking a ride on one of these cruisers.

Venice Taxi - Venice

Venice Taxi

Taxi

On the morning of our departure, we were running a bit late. We figured that the quickest way to get to the train station would be to take a taxi. This turned out to be a big mistake. The boat was sooo slow, and everyone was passing us by. We probably would have made it to the train station faster if by walking. This lesson cost us $35!
