While in Venice, you will undoubtedly end up in St. Mark's Square. Here, despite the large number of tourists, the pigeons outnumber the people during the day. In the evening, the square completely transforms as the musicians begin to play and the day-trippers head out of town. This is the time to sit down and have a cup of coffee or wine and enjoy the music.

For those of you that hate walking up stairs, this is the bell tower for you. It has an elevator!! For a relatively small fee you will be transported to the top, and the view you'll get from there will not be easily forgotten. Avoid the long lines during the day and try to go when it first opens or right before closing.

While on top of the Bell Tower, you'll get a completely different view of St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica San Marco.) Make sure you take your time to soak in the sites from all different directions.

Another thing you'll see from the top of the bell tower is one of the hundreds of islands that surround Venice. Many, like the one in the picture, have their own bell tower and church.

As you know, Venice is filled with canals. They are what make Venice Venice. Try to get away from the crowds and wander the outskirts of the island. Remember, it is an island, and you won't get lost. Having said that, this picture was actually taken just a few yards from St. Marks Square.
