Day 11 (see my
Italy page for our full itinerary)
Some say that Vernazza, the fourth town from the south, may be the prettiest of the five towns. In my opinion, all five towns are great and they all are worth a visit. One thing is certain, and it is that Vernazza is the most popular. Everybody that comes to the Cinque Terre wants to stay in Vernazza, and the rooms fill up fast. If you really want to stay here, book your room as soon as you can.
We visited Vernazza on our inter-city hike. You can find more on the hike in the "Must See" tips. We found that the town had a great selection of restaurants to choose from. After grabbing a sandwich and a slice of pizza, we sat down on the sidewalk to eat our lunch and to rest up for the last leg of the trail.
With our bellies full, we were ready for the home stretch. In a little while, we would be relaxing at the beach in Monterroso al Mare...or so we thought. Just as we started on the last bit of trail, the rains came, and they didn't stop. We opted for the train back to Monterroso al Mare, and headed straight to our hotel. There would be no beach time for us that day.
