Phan Thai Hotel (Part of Camellia Hotels): Great Location, Reasonably Priced

  • We found this place in our guidebook and booked online. The price was just above $20 per night with breakfast included. The Phan Thai (or Camellia 4) was perfectly situated right in the old quarter. The constant honking from the thousands of motorbikes took a bit of getting used to, but after a while it was like listening to a babbling brook.

I would highly recommend this place to everyone, but book online, as they tend to sell out. Don’t forget to prearrange for a taxi. Otherwise you will be taken to different hotel. Expect to pay $10 for a taxi whether you prearrange it or not.

Unique Qualities: You can’t beat the location!

The lobby has two computers for the guests to use free of charge to access the internet. The connection is not the best, but it gets you there! This quality isn’t unique to this hotel, but it’s nice to have it.

Hi Quell, Re the restaurant you would never have found: Noodle Shop, 9B Hoa Ma St. How do I find Clair of Hidden Hanoi? I'm going to Hanoi in May. Thx, suzanne.stephen@gmail.com

I would think USD15 spent in a market in Vietnam was horribly expensive. My experience in HCMC was that an excellent meal costs about USD 1 to USD 2 per person, unless we are eating in a international chain-restaurant at international prices.
