This is my fav Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Izakaya means pub-style restaurant. Cozy, small family-run restaurant, with reasonable price.
Favorite Dish: Give me sashimi anytime! :) Sashimi: thinly sliced fresh raw fish served with soy sauce and wasabi (Japanese horseradish).

Supper Inn Chinese Restaurant

Ever feel the hunger pangs at 2am and no where to go for a decent meal? Supper Inn is here to satisfy your desperate call for food. This Cantonese restaurant is bustling with activities even in the middle of the night. The staff are efficient and friendly. There is also a small selection of wine in the wine list. However, be prepared to wait a little for a table and for your order to be served. This place is extremely crowded! Opening hour: Daily 5.30pm-2.30am
Favorite Dish: This place is famous for it's variety of congee. My fav is the lean meat and century egg congee eaten with "you tiao" (Chinese "doughnut"). Also try the eggplant with salted fish and minced pork hot pot (this is best eaten with rice :)).

"Sell the house, sell the grandmother - whatever it takes to eat here at least once." That's what most people will tell you when talking about Melbourne's most celebrated Restaurant of the Year and Best Chinese Restaurant in The Age Good Food Guide 2002. However, consider the $ you gotta pay to eat here, I find the food a bit of a disappointment. Maybe my expectation was just too high, but I would expect it to be better to fit the reputation. The service and overall commitment to quality dining is, however, impressive. So if you have too much to spend, go to Flower Drum for the service, but don't expect too much from the food.
Favorite Dish: Flower Drum specialises in Cantonese Cuisine. Let the team device the menu for you because they know what's the best available in the market at that time.

Restaurant Name: Chinatown
For the best of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai cuisine, don’t miss Chinatown. Situated on Little Bourke Street and the neighbouring lanes between Spring and Swanston Streets, restaurants, cafes and Asian grocery stores dominate the precinct. Don't forget to try the Asian pastries at Maxim and Dragon Boat Restaurant.

Nihonbashi Zen: Not just sushi!

Tip Rating: Satisfaction:

|
Restaurant Name: Nihonbashi Zen
This tiny restaurant is hidden underneath a Chinese restaurant (can't remember the name, but it's on the part of Chinatown close to Exhibition Street). The ambience is quite different from the other Japanese restaurants I've been to in Melbourne, quiet and serene with a feel of zen, and the decoration made me feel like I'm in Japan. The food, I would say, is innovative, the portion, however, is very small, and after spending >$50 I still feel hungry, not recommended for big eater (unless your pocket is loaded), go there for appetizer instead. Service is great, it's a family run restaurant and you get all the attention you want. Click on the pic for trading hours. A tip for female travellers: the cute waiter is the son of the restaurant owner, studying law in one of the best Uni in Australia (brain and look hmm....), and he's still single, or so his mum said.
Favorite Dish: Salmon sashimi as always, fresh fresh fresh, and a seafood special set (or something like that), sit at the sashimi bar and watch your food being prepared. This place is so small the "kitchen" is right in front of you and you can be assured that everything is clean.
