In 2001 I visited this great city for the first time. Actually that visit was part of a round-trip through Europe, and I must say Barcelona was one of the cities with the best memories! I visited only a few sights since there was not much time unfortunately.
Luckily I was able to go back in November 2002!! I expected the weather not to be very good, but it turned out to be lovely, because the meter went up to about 18º Celcius everyday! |

| | The city of Antoni Gaudí Without a doubt the most present architect in Barcelona is Antoni Gaudí. He was born in Reuss (Tarragona) in 1852 and was the leading figure in the Catalan Modernism. He died a terrible dead since he was hit by a tram. He built some of the most important buildings in the city and his biggest work the Sagrada Família is still in development everyday. Other must see's are Palau Güell, Casa Milà or 'La Pedrera', Casa Batlló, and Park Güell.
If you want to see work of other modernistic architects in Barcelona I recommend visiting the amazing and very informative site of The Modernisme Route. Here you can not only find routes that show you Antoni Gauí's work, but also from Domènech i Montaner and Puig i Cadafalch. |
The city of great food! Everywhere you go you'll see restaurants, small and big. You would want to eat in all of these places, but unfortunately that's not possible. There is a big variation in foodtypes, but when you're in Spain you just have to eat tapas, and accompany that with sangría. Wine or beer will do too!! You can order a lot of dishes when you're with a group so you can have a big variety of dishes. A good thing about the food is not only that it tastes lovely, it is also very cheap! Oh but be carefull when you want to enjoy the nightlife of Barcelona, because the Spanish love to put garlic in their/ your food ;-) | | |
