School trip to Poland

by martin_nl - last update: Apr 12, 2003

Karkonosze National Park
In 1997 in the second last year before I had my exams we went on a school trip to Poland. I'm going to do a bit of guessing on this site, because I don't know the facts of this trip anymore. If you see anything wrong, please let me know and I'll change it.

We stayed in a little town that was pretty dead with nothing much to do at all. First day we went on a trip to the mountains and I believe they were in the Karkonosze National Park. We made a walk through the mountains and it was really beautiful. Although we were there in spring we could see that in wintertime it's used as a place to ski.

After this long day we were totally exhausted. Next day we went to the concentration camp Gross-Rosen. The bus trip was really nice and we had a nice view of the countryside. However the horrible things that happened during WW II made everyone feel totally different.

On the last day we finally went to the city of Wroclaw. Finally?? Yes, finally because we hadn't had any decent food in the town where we stayed the previous nights, at least in our opinion....

The first thing we did in Wroclaw after getting off the bus, was to find the McDonald's we saw by looking out of the windows in the bus. Finally we found it and grabbed a supersize menu. It was so delicious, we ordered something extra after we had finished the meal.

After the meal we had the whole day free to spend. We didn't really know what there was to do in the city, so decided just to walk around and grab some drinks on the terraces. The atmosphere was great and the people were very friendly although most of them didn't speak any english.

We saw quite a lot of the city actually but hardly make any pictures. That's why I only have one picture up under must see's which is the City Hall. A beautiful building in the city centre.

After the day in Wroclaw, the next day it was time to go home, but we went via Berlin, so could spend a day there too, which was absolutely fantastic!!

Since I have a lot of good memories about Wroclaw and Poland I definately want to go back there and visit Wroclaw again, but also at least the cities of Krakow and Warsaw!
