| Christchurch has some fantastic architecture |
|  | One of the loveliest cities in New Zealand has to be Christchurch. It lacks all the concrete structures of Auckland and the busyness of Wellington, but that is what gives Christchurch together with it's green parks and river Avon, it's nice typical english character.
Everywhere you look it's prefect in this city. You feel safe, it's clean, the sights are very nice and the people are among the friendliest in New Zealand. For me it was also the first place I got to in NZ so it was a perfect start.
The main things you need to do in Christchurch are walking along the river Avon, relax in the lovely and huge Botanical Gardens, check out Cathedral Square, with it's Gothic Cathedral, lovely weekend market and wizard and simply take in all the nice squares and greenery this city has to offer you. Christchurch is the perfect place to start and/or finish any New Zealand trip. |

The idea of cruising down the Avon through the middle of the city is quite cool! It doesn't look like there is any white-water rafting opportunities on that river. Excellent photos and write-ups. | cnango Thu Feb 10, 2005 07:46 UTC
