All along boat quay you can see many statues. Some are very modern, others a bit more traditional. You can see the bumboats pass by while either walking along the quay's yourself, of by having a drink at one of the many bars. It's great to walk around this bit of Singapore, cross the bridges along the way and enjoy the spectacular views of Singapore Skyline. One of the statues represents a couple of kids jumping into the river. Many children died here, however. The Singapore river is not very deep, although it does seems like it is.

On the riverbank you can find the symbol of Singapore. The Merlion. The biggest one can be found on Sentosa Island, but here you will find two even. They are half fish and half lion. These strange creatures were designed in the '60's as the mascot of Singapore.

Although the fruit has a horrible taste in my opinion is does look great, and so does this building. It is quite a recent addition to the cities things to see. A lot of Singaporeans hate the looks of this durian shaped theatre building. Wowever there is lots to see and do both inside the building as outside. Most likely you'll be coming here to see a cultural performance or to just check out the inside of the building. However if you hang out outside you can enjoy one of the many free performances by the street entertainers that are frequently held here.

With an unpronouncable name this is the most beautiful temple in Little India. The temple is dedicated to Kali a bloodthirsty consort of Shiva. The temple was built in 1881. You can see Kali ripping out the guts of her victims. How nice!

This tip could as well be under the shopping tips, but I decided to put it up here, because it is a sight in itself to look at all the shops and the people shopping. On Orchard Road you can find everything you could ever need. There are cheap shops and designer boutiques. Jeans stores and book shops. And everything is big. Shopping in the malls is best since these are air conditioned. However once you get outside again, it feels like you're actually melting. One night I was walking on Orchard Road I saw all these Disney figures. I don't know why but it looked very nice. Also I saw this other big building, but I don't know what it represents. Perhaps it's a government building?

I love to visit botanic gardens. We don't get them in Europe, so if I get the chance I visit one right away. Every botanic gardens has it's unique vegetation, but I have to say the ones in tropical climates like here in Singapore are the nicest. Very often there are performances here in the Botanic Gardens of Singapore. Just bring a book, a drink and enjoy the music in the distance. A great way to spend some of the day when it is too hot to walk around.

Part of the Botanic Gardens of Singapore is the National Orchid Garden. The orchid is by far my favourite flower, so if I get the chance to visit an orchid garden I take it. You will find many species of orchids in this garden. There is a seperate entrance fee, for this part of the Botanic Gardens, but it's worth your 2 S$. The National Orchid Garden is one of world's biggest orchid displays and there are over 60,000 flowers featured!!
