Ever since I first planned on going to Malaysia, Melaka was on top of the list. It is nice to be from such a small country as the Netherlands and then be on the other side of the world and a building is actually called Stadthuys, which means Cityhall in Dutch. Of course I heard other good things about this city that I really wanted to see for myself.

The thing I like about Melaka is that it is so rich in history and culture. This has to be the only place in the world where in one street you will find a typical Dutch house, Portuguese architecture, an Islamic mosque, Buddhist, Indian and Taoist temples and Victorian houses and where people of all cultures are thoroughly friendly to eachother and to tourists.
