"Beijing: Las Vegas and New York on... " a Beijing Travel Page by arcticboy

I only spent about a week in total in Beijing, but from what I saw was a unique city. I think these are special times for China and Beijing. Beijing will be hosting the 2008 Olympics and they are very excited about it. I was absolutely amazed at the development going on in the city while I was there. it was mind boggling actually. I saw so many constructions sites. It's hard to imagine the extent of the development, but to give you an example, I went to a few bars on my first trip there, then 2 weeks later, I went to see them again only to find a pile of rubble.

Of course all this development isn't without it's tolls. The pollution I saw there was absolutely appalling. I knew it was going to be bad before I went, but I could never have imagined the reality. I couldn't see the sky! Because of the smog, the sun looks like the moon when it rises. It was all pretty disgusting to me, but from what I understand, they're trying to make the city as green as possible, and I guess you can't have such a humungous city without having an impact on the environment.

With all of that, I found Beijing to be an extremely interesting place to visit.
