Bayarta Mongolia! You haven't seen the last of me. Well I'm back in Nunavut from a very successful trip to China and Mongolia. I had an absolutely amazing time and definitely plan on going back again (maybe a few times) I've started on my Beijing page, and I'll be sure to add pages on Mongolia. I've been readjusting to my "normal" life back in Canada (and to my timezone) And I was thrown right into a bunch of projects at work when I got home, but I'm still glowing from my trip, so I'll try to make some half decent pages, so stay tuned |

| | A little about me... So I suppose I should say a bit of who I am and what I'm about. My name is Jesse and I'm a travelholic... I grew up mostly in various places around Nunavut which is in the Canadian arctic. I lived in a few other places in Canada like British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. I'm back in Nunavut for a while to work. I work for the government of Nunavut as a Heritage Places Officer. I enjoy my job most days as I'm given quite a bit of freedom and I get to travel sometimes. I think it should go without saying that I love travel.
I was supposed to go to Nepal this spring but that trip fell apart on me. However, I'm going to try again for next spring and in the meantime I'm still really interested in Asia and I plan on seeing India sometime in the near future as well. This winter I think I may check Vienna out to change things up a bit. I really enjoy seeing exotic places and the poorer places in the world because I think these are very important places to see and experience, but I also like European culture and history and haven't been to Europe in a long time, so we'll see. |
A little bit about my home As some of you may know, Nunavut which translates to "our land" is Canada's newest territory. It was created on April 1, 1999; it was one of the largest aboriginal land claims in history. Our total landmass is more than 2.1 million square kilometers, one fifth of Canada's total landmass. Pretty big huh? Well our population doesn't reflect our size, there are scarcely 30,000 people living in Nunavut, 85% of which are Inuit. I am among the 85%.
The Inuit have lived in Nunavut for roughly 10,000 years. It was just in the last century that we have been brought into the mainstream society. Just to give you an example, my father who isn't even 50 yet was born in a skin tent on the sea ice. The picture to the right is of my family back in the 60's. I have been raised in the modern world but reminders of the ancient world are ever present.
I'm very proud of my heritage so if you have any questions about my land or my people, by all means, I'll be happy to help you out. | | | Family photo from the 60's |
