Part 1 Doba dan ... now i really havent got a scoobie how to spell that but it means 'Hello', so there you are.. a Slovenian word for you... aint i nice.
Oh and before i forget... Havale (again spellings gone) means 'Thank you' .. people do always appreciate it if you are polite in their own tongue.
This is the main part of my journal im writting, if you've just joined me then allow me to elaborate. I spent about 10 days travelling with my brother, Mark. We started off in Venice and then popped over to Slovenia and ended up in Prague. This is a kinda travel journal so, if you would like to read about my travels then why not start at the start... Venice.
But back to Slovenia...
In total i spent about a week in Slovenia and in that time I came to the conclusion that it really is one of the most beautiful countries i've visited. During my week i was lucky enough to get out of the capital and spend time in and around Tolmin and Koper with some friends (North West Slovenia). Okay lets start and the beginning...
Following from the Izola Page myself and my brother were on our way to Ljubljana by train, and i have to say... this was a nice train... air con, comfy seats, and apparently, as stated by some Australian travellers, the toilets were definately worth a visit, but enough of that, lets get on... we arrived at Ljubljana. |
Part 2 First of all i have to introdue a young lady to all my readers, please say a big 'hello' and 'how u doin'!' to Andreja ... will all else which will be said, let it be written that this is a classy chick... and sometimes rather scary. Now Andreja lives in Tolmin and met my brother in Miami whilst he was travelling last year, and the've been friends ever since.
The plan was that once we got off the train we would call Andreja so she could meet up with us, but just as we were about to ring her number at the train station we hear a shout 'Mark!' ... and turning round, low and behold there she is on the platform... freaky occurance numero one. Unfortunately she had to pop off to go dancing so we had a look for hostels to go to. WHilst on the train id managed to write down the names of a few hostels on a peice of paper from a book the Australian's had... i had 4 names in total, writting on each side of the paper. We decided to stay at one and showed our lady friend which one, however after she left and we got ourselves a map from the information office at the station we decided to stay at a different hostel (called Dijaski Dom Tabor - details in accomodation section), and we thougt we would call her from the hostel to inform her of our new residence.
So, we slowly made our way to the hostel with our map and were greated warmly and friendily. This hostel cattered for a great number of travellers of many nationalities, all of whom were keen to make new friends and share advice and stories. That first day in Ljubljana we dropped off our bags in our room and went for a walk through the city center... we passed over the dragon bridge, apparently there is a legand that if a virgin passes over it then the dragon statues on the bridge waggle their tails... but believe me, after seeing the talent of the women, i bet none of them are virgins! After walking for a while we soon found the market and had a walk through and took in the sights and smells... today was a very hot day so we decided to buy half a watermelon. This I would recommend, just pop into a shop and buy some plastic spoons, and then pop to the market and purchase half a watermelon, then park your butt down anywhere nice and tuck in... the locals look at you funny and pass laughing to them selves but its damn nice stuff, and you never know when you put the skin in the bin a strange old lady may start nattering away to you in a weird foreign language.... all was amusing.
That evening we took a strole to find some where to eat, each place we went to had a seperate english menu.. so if your stuck like we were just ask for it and they are happy to help. Whilst looking at the menus the first thing we noticed were the beers...o.2L, o.5L, 1L, 2L and 35L! ('a barrel to share with you friends' the menu stated) simply class!!! We, being british and used to pints looked around and saw the sizes of the beers people were drinking, we saw that the guys had a glass about 3 inches diameter and 2/3 to 1/4 yard high, this we thought was a 2L glass so we orderd two 1L's (570 Tolar each), Mark had a light beer and myself a dark, which turned out to be lager and bitter... but on arrival these glasses held 1L!.... we never did see a 2L glass. But we were happy enough :o)
After that first night we gave Andreja a bell and she agreed to meet us. Whilst we were waiting we went for walk and realised we hadnt told her our new hostel address... but when we returned to call her again the woman was there waiting for us!... we still dont know how she found out where we were staying .. but one thing was for sure... this was getting freaky. :OP |
Part 3 But that was where we met up with Andreja and her friend Dajana, and it was with them we spent the rest of the week.
AFter chilling out for a while our two ladies drove us to Andreja's apartment in Ljubljana, here we stayed for a night before driving to their home town of Talmin. But lets say a little about that first night, that was when we met up with the other lady friends... Sonja, Ana and Petra. Yes, you've noticed, i was there with my brother walking around with 5 beautiful women... could life get any better?.. well, we'll see shall we.
Unfortunately for now thats all i've got time for... but dont worry pipos and Bryan the Camel shall be back soon to adventures with the other lovely ladies, featuring Mrs Miaguee, Hydrospeeding and buiscuits :o) |
