Copenhagen Ahhhh... the bustling city of Copenhagen. On arriving at this modern city the first port of call was the Tourist INformation Centre, which is directly opposite the Railway Station. Unbeknown to me there was actually a europeen conference going on at the time I was in Copenhagen and so most of the hostels were full up. After a bit of waiting and telephoning I found a room for one night at Jorgensens Hostel, 125 DKK which included a cold breakfast, the room held four people and were bunk beds. But it was a very friendly place and was clean. It was here, whilst in the TV room I sat near a about 4 lads talking english!!.. excellent I thought, so i wandered over and intoroduced myself. It turned out that they were part of a large group of students from varying countries in europe who were spending 6 months at a university in Aarhus, and were on a weekend trip to Copenhagen. Anyway we started nattering away and as time passed more of the group turned up, and it was here that i met Sheona, a lovely English girl. Anyway we started nattering away and we were getting on well, I also met, among others, a close friend of her's Dorte, from Germany. It was with these two that i spent the rest of my time. |
Christiana Before I left to go on holiday I had heard of this strange, translucent town within a town. It was said that it is hidden from those who dont want ot find it or see it.. but I had to give it a visit. Once inside, the marquees all say 'say no to hard drugs' .. here's an extract fromt he journal i was writting at the time "By me sit 5 gents, one with locks, rasta music plays within earshot where ever you sit. Behind me is a statue of a man, a wooden statue - rare these days, he is carved standing on a barrel, hair pouring down his back with a guitar pearched on his shoulders. There are no sorrow faced in sight, and just to complete the sun has squeezed through the darkening cloud". Camera's are banned in this place, but for any tourist or traveller, visiting this place is a definate must!!! Anyway the next day, after meeting Sheona and Dorte, we met up and went on a boat trip around Copenhagen ... i would definately recomend it .. especially if its a nice day. They take you through the streets and via the infamous Mermaid Statue .. with the necessairy information without which a boat trip would not be complete. |
Tivali That evening Sheona and I went to Tivali (entrance 55DKK).. its like a theme park type place near the Railway Station .. and inside you have your rides etc.. but we went there in the evening to watch a concert and the fireworks. The concert was excellent.. very amusing, good music and good company .. and then the fireworks started, so we sat on the top of a wall and watched them explode over a fountain .. it truely was a spectacular evening.
Unfortunately that evening I had to return to a different hostel out of town as the others were fully booked. This time i stayed at Belaegningen Hostel (100DKK), its a bus ride away (sorry I cant recal the price of the ticket) but its a lovely hostel. The beds were the most comfortable that i have experienced and the place looked as if it had only just been built, if you dont mind staying outside the city then this is the place .. and its surrounded by fields.
The next day I returned to Copenhagen and met up with Sheona and Dorte, they were returning to their univeristy town on the mainland that day and fortunately for me one of the group had decided to stay in Copenhagen .. and so there was a spare seat on the train ... and Sheona, bless her heart, invited me to join her... now how could i refuse this invitation? ... so next stop Aarhus. |
