Gloucester fisherman
Gloucester was brought to the forefront of popular culture by the movie "The Perfect Storm", which recounted the plight of the fishing vessel, Andrea Gail, caught in the storm of the century. The truth is, here in America's oldest seaport, men have fought the elements for hundreds of years. Their victories go untold, their losses are almost invariably tragic yet accepted as a necessary risk of their way of life. Since its settlement in 1623, more than 10 thousand Gloucester lives have been lost at sea. Their names and faces are unknown to most people. But to the people of Gloucester, they are an indelible part of their proud heritage.
