Lassen Volcanic NP seems to be underrated. Most visitors are attracted to the well-known, and deservedly so, Yosemite NP further south. But to overlook Lassen is to miss out on a wonderful experience. My memories of Lassen are of deep blue crater lakes, of stunning mountain vistas, and of thermal landscape that rivals those at Yellowstone.
Lassen Volcanic NP was established in 1916 as an active volcanic landscape. Lassen Peak first erupted in 1914 and continued with minor activities until 1921. According to the NPS, all 4 types of volcanoes in the world are found here. |
