Hiking path in Giles State Forest
A New Hampshire native would kill me if they knew I said that. New Hampshire is a curious state -- the welcome signs are in French, there are no sales tax, and the state-owned liquor store looms right off the freeway not long after you cross the border from MA. I love NH. Countless times we've gone hiking, camping, canoeing, leaf-peeping, and skiing there. The autumn colors here are famous around the world, deservedly so. The White Mountains are arguably the most scenic areas in all of New England, any season. If you're in love with nature, it's impossible not to fall, no topple head over heels, in love here.
Old Man of the Mountain, R.I.P. 2003
The Old Man of the Mountain is the symbol and icon of New Hampshire. Formed from five unique protruding granite ledges on the side of appropriately named Profile Mountain, the Old Man stands guard over Franconia Notch in northern NH. His profile is only recognizable from one side; from any other viewing angle the shape is indistinct, as many people including yours truly have found out the hard way. Sadly in early May 2003 the Old Man collapsed and is no more. This picture, taken in October 2002, is my only record of him
At the lakeshore in an Autumn morning
NH is also the land of lakes. This is taken on a quiet Autumn morning near Manchester.

You're a brave man..."Massachusett's Backyard?!"....more like, "Massachusett's Brave Northern Neighbor". Very different states, for better or worse.
