LIDO: Self-service restaurant

This Latvian self-service restaurant chain entered Lithuanian market some years ago and was accepted with great enthusiasm.. Maybe because we didn't have any strong brand of self-service restaurants before them.
So if you wish to have a not expensive lunch and shop in the hypermarket at the same time, come to "Lido" in Savanoriu avenue in Kaunas. Other restaurants of Lido are located are in Vilnius and other Lithuanian cities.

Favorite Dish: You can create your own menu and take all what you want.
The specific symbol of "Lido" is wind-mills (as you can see reflection of it in the photo) and the interior design resembles the wooden tavern.

Miesto sodas (Garden of city): Sometimes we want the time to stop

Everytime I want to have some "relaxed" and "no hurry" time or to enjoy "elegant" eating, I go to "Miesto sodas" restaurant. The interior design gives you some space to hide from the world and look at it passing by through the big glass windows while you enjoy listening to jazz (in the evenings live music) and sip your wine.

Favorite Dish: For lunch time they have salad buffet open - "eat all what you can" principle (it's the only restaurant doing this as far as I know).. But other dishes are worth to try as well.
At night time there is a disco club "Siena" opened at the basement, I would suggest giving it a try.
Just one strange thing - some days ago I found there is a sign saying you must pay to go to WC (maybe not for the clients?)

"Pizza Jazz" restaurant "Eskimo bar": A glass of hot wine at the ice-made bar?

When it's -20C below zero, you definitely can't say "NO" to Eskimo-dressed "Pizza Jazz" waiter offering you a glass of hot red wine made at the icy bar in the middle of Laisves pedestrian avenue.

Favorite Dish: It's a pity this ice-made bar exists only during 1 week in winter when "Pizza Jazz" organize ice-sculpture festival. More about that you can read at "nightlife" tips.

Pizza Jazz: Lithuanians also know how to make GOOD pizza:)

Pizza Jazz is a family owned Lithuanian pizza chain which started here in Kaunas. It's open since 1993 and with every day it grows bigger and more adored by hungry pizza lovers:) They have branch in Latvia (Riga) as well.

What especially I love about this pizzeria is that they never stop on improving their work methods, the quality of the food and service. They have proactive approach to the customers and are strong at marketing while positioning their brand (my marketing education took over lol :) ]

"Pizza jazz" is a sponsor of many jazz concerts and every winter on their birthday they present ice-sculptures exposition for Kaunas people just in front of their restaurant, which attracts from kids to grown-ups...

Favorite Dish: Of course, pizza is great food to enjoy there, but there are also lots of other dishes like salads and meat meals. The dessert bar with Italian style coffees and wine choice makes your stay in the restaurant complete:)

By the way, notice to Italians - in Lithuania they do offer ketchup with pizza but in "Pizza jazz" they at least don't put it on the pizza top so you can add it if you like only :)

Dessert bar "Jums" (for you): For the sweetest dessert

This dessert bar is really an outstanding one :
1) they serve various kinds of desserts, coffee and tea;
2) various meals as well;
3) the interior design is very special with unique photos and paintings, many thoughtful details like little candles, little flowers on the tables and so on;
4) the menu in English is available!

Favorite Dish: I love coming to this dessert bar quite often to enjoy my favourite hot-straight-from-the-oven apple pie with caramel!!!
If you order that cake you will have to wait approximately for 20 minutes for it to be ready but it's worth waiting!!
While waiting you can enjoy looking at the world passing by as you will be sitting in the middle of main pedestrian street in Kaunas :)

Beer Restaurant "Avilys": have you ever been to BEER RESTAURANT?

This is a quite new restaurant (opened in 2000) in the old town of Kaunas. They specialize in various kinds of beer and different kinds of dishes made using some beer. So you can try just made beer, beer soup, beer drink and so on. Really worth visiting!

Senamiescio vynine (The wine-bar of old town): The best place for live music and glass of wine

This is the best restaurant for my taste for some reasons:
1. located in the old town, in a cosy little street where is no noise, no much people.
2. have various kinds of wine from all over the world.
3. delicious food.
4. live jazz music on the friday and weekend evenings.
5. forget the feeling about dining in a restaurant - it feels like visiting your best friends.

Favorite Dish: I loved various chicken meals and irish coffee.

Lunch on the river

I've never been to this boat-restaurant but it's quite romantic to go there on the river to have your lunch or dinner while looking at the flying seagulls and passing by boats..:)
And also - this boat is a transportation mean to get to some towns downstream the Nemunas river, so it's restaurant and ship at the same time..:)

Berneliu uzeiga: If in Lithuania, try CEPELINAI

The chain of "Berneliu uzeiga" (something like "chaps'/lads' inn") is providing Lithuanians and tourists with traditional Lithuanian food "cepelinai", "kugelis", "vedarai" and many others which are a MUST to try at least once if you're in Lithuania. Warning: these are fat containing food, so if you prefer fat-free or veggie food you're in the wrong place :)

Favorite Dish: I liked 'cepelinai' of course, but also they have lots of chicken dishes which are my favorite.

Medziotoju uzeiga: Are you a Hunter?

This restaurant specializes in various kind of wild animals food so it's called "Hunters' Inn". You can taste various rare and delicious things if you like meat of wild boar, ducks and so on.
