North End: Visit the historical sites...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Visit the historical sites everywhere! See as much as you can ..... there are brochures out there and tour ducks, etc. I suggest walking from the Long Warf to the North End and finding a nice Italian resaurant to sit down and have a nice dinner or drink. Or find an Italian bakery and get a yummy dessert. A whole box even. No regrets!

Fondest Memory: Dinner in the North End on my first date with my husband, Bill.

Hancock Tower: See Clouds Reflected in the John Hancock Tower
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: The mix of the old with the new. Nothing reflects it better than Copley Square with the John Hancock Tower and it's surrounding neighbors.
    .
See the clouds reflected in the John Hancock Tower by Copley Square.

Fondest Memory: The different structures of many ages, past and present. It's a unique feeling to walk in this city.

Old South Church: Old South Meeting House
  • Tip Rating:
  • Boston Old South Church
  • Old South Meeting House

  • Favorite Thing: Along the Freedom Trail, two blocks from the Old State House ... you can see the steeple or go inside and tour (there is a charge) the Old South Meeting House.
    .
At the time it was built in 1729 as a Congregational Church, the Old South Meeting House was the largest meeting space in Colonial Boston. When attendance at town meetings grew too large for Faneuil Hall, the Old South Meeting House served as a meeting site. In the years prior to the Revolution, town meetings were frequent at Old South as people gathered here to protest British rule. The most famous meeting took place here on December 16, 1773. Five thousand angry colonists came to protest the British tea tax. After the meeting a group of colonists went to the waterfront, boarded three ships, and dumped the tea into the harbor. The Boston Tea Party brought about the beginning of the American Revolution.

Other Churches: New Old South Church
  • Tip Rating:
  • Boston Other Churches
  • New Old South Church

  • Favorite Thing: The architecture of Boston is a blend and mix of the Old with the New. It tantilizes the senses!
    .
This is a picture in the New Old South Church across from Copley Square and the John Hancock. The church provides a focus for the transition between the neighborhood of the Back Bay, and the larger scale institutions of Copley Square. It is the last of the many Gothic structures that filled the young Copley Square.
    .
In 1869 the congregation of the Old South Church arranged for the sale of the valuable land beneath downtown meeting house and relocated to the newly established Back Bay. the paradoxical name "New" Old South was made necessary when the Old South Church was saved by preservationists, and renamed the Old South Meeting House.

Fondest Memory: Just walking about Boston!

Navigating: This is a Great Walking City
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: I'm still fascinated by everything I see in Boston and just love walking everywhere I go. When you walk, you don't even need to pay attention to "OneWay" street signs. You also see places you wouldn't if you were driving and dealing with the traffic and the pedestrians "Jay Walking" in front of you or trying to read the sign to get where you're going. Another reason to take the "T" and then walk to your destination.

Budget Travel: How to Enjoy Boston on a Shoestring Budget
  • Tip Rating:
  • Boston Budget Travel
  • Sumner Tunnel Toll Booth
  • by RhondaRuth

  • Favorite Thing: Check out this fun web page to learn "How to Enjoy Boston on a Shoestring Budget".

    http://boston.about.com/c/ht/00/07/How_Enjoy_Boston_Shoestring0962933113.htm

Great suggestions here, even if you have a slightly higher budget to work with than a shoestring, LOL!

Fondest Memory: Learning that I don't need to fear the "T"! It's cheaper and faster to get into Boston from the airport (or Winthrop) on the "T" than it is sitting and manuvering in the traffic going thru the Sumner Tunnel. The toll is now $3.00, by the way and the "T" (subway train) is only $1.25 each way! Altho, it's even cheaper if you purchase a PASS.
