A View of Boston from the Charles River, Cambridge

From Boston Harbor or the Charles River in Cambridge, to the SouthEnd of Boston , I think this is a beautiful City .... or it will be when the Big Dig is done. Hope it's in my lifetime!

The views are as diversified as the people and the food of Boston. I never thought I would say this, being a "country girl" and all, BUT
I LOVE BOSTON!
The New with the Old

A City with Growing Pains ...

Not since they filled in the Back Bay has the city of Boston undergone a structural change as enormous as the Big Dig, which seeks to ease the city's notorious traffic problems. A key component of the Big Dig plan is to replace the elevated six-lane highway, the Central Artery, with an eight-to-10-lane underground expressway that culminates at the north in a 14-lane, two-bridge crossing of the Charles River, the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge, a stunning new structure that has instantly become a highlight of the city's skyline. And I can understand why. All the local news stations certainly feature it during the traffic reports. It'll be even more beautiful to look at when the project is complete around it!
Exiting the Liberty or the Tip Tunnel

What will the Tunnels Under Boston be called?

Two tunnels of the Big Dig have opened up to traffic. The new connector linking the Ted Williams Tunnel with I-90, the Massachusetts Turnpike and (the one I've taken a picture of a piece here) the main underground stretch of the new I-93, which runs beneath downtown Boston and over the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge.

But the names have yet to be finalized or at least which one will get which name... 1. Liberty Tunnel or 2. Tip O'Neil Tunnel.

My vote is for the Main Tunnel to be called the Liberty Tunnel .

My vote REALLY doesn't count.
The new connector linking the Ted Williams Tunnel with I-90, the Massachusetts Turnpike will now be called the Liberty Tunnel and
the main tunnel in the underground stretch of the new I-93, which runs beneath downtown Boston has been named the Tip O'Neil tunnel. So be it!

Come On Over and Visit
There's a lot to see in Boston. Athough it's actually a small city and you can walk from one side to the other (my husband grew up here and told me so), but it'll take you more than a day to see everything. Heck, take your time and enjoy your visit!

With good walking sneakers and young feet it can be done and someday I just might do that....walk from one side to the other. No problem!! Sure. Honest. I will... I will.

I'll be putting pictures on my travelogue as well. You'll find the travelogue on one of the TABS at the top of this page. This is a great city! Enjoy!!
