RhondaRuth's Day in Washington DC

by RhondaRuth - last update: Sep 15, 2003

The Monumental City

Washington DC under hazy skies!
We had a wonderful time touring our Capitol by way of the Old Town Trolley Tours. It's a great way to see DC. You can get off at each stop and see what you want to see and then get back on to continue the tour. We got off only twice, so next time we'll get off at a couple of different stops to see what we missed this time!
Union Station

The most beautiful Train Station I've ever seen!

Seventy pounds of 22-karat gold leaf adorned the 96-foot barrel-vaulted, coffered ceilings. It was hard to believe it was even a train station when we walked inside. There are two levels of concourses, each lined with stores and a huge food court on the first level.

We flew into Washington, but took a taxi over to the Union Station to meet our son inlaw. He took our luggage and gave us tickets to take the Trolley Tours until he got out of work. Timing it just right, we met him 10 minutes after he got out of work and took the 1 hour ride to Deal, Maryland. It was a beautiful day for us. Althought, not for others. We heard on the radio during our ride about the power outage in New York and up into Canada.

So browse thru my tips from the seat of ...

The Old Town Trolley Tours. I took lots of pictures while riding the trolley and if I had a tape recorder, it would have been interesting to tape the historic story tellers we had for drivers. They were interesting and fun! Just wished we had more time to see more. Of course, we also ran out of ENERGY!

Pros:"So much to see!"

In A Nutshell:"Great place to learn about the history of our country."
