5000 Year Old Village and Ancient Standing Stones

The Village of Skara Brae is Orkney's most famous site.
People lived here 5000 years ago. Everything remains except the roofs.

The Ring of Brodgar demonstrates the cultural ties between Orkney and the rest of Neolithic Britain. Its thought that they were built in the 3rd millennium.

Orkney Chapel

Orkney Chapel was built by an Italian prisoner of war in W.W.II.

Here is a view inside as well as out.

The architecture inside looks as if it were 3D.

Orkney is NORTH!

This is Scotland and Orkney is at the very top of the map.
Shetland is even further north offten shown as here in a box on the right.

Although I lived north of Inverness, and have looked at Orkney from John O'Groats, I have never had the chance to visit. Now I doubt I ever will.
