***Granton Harbour*** ^Where I spent my childhood.^
1544. Granton {Royston} Castle built & was occupied intill 1794.
1544. Hertford landed a force at Granton which advanced to capture Leith.
1834. Docks proposed.
1835. Harbour built by the Duke of Buccleuch.
1842. Queen Victoria landed at Granton for her official visit to Edinburgh during which she stayed at Dalkeith Palace.
1845. Steamers between Granton & Stirling.
1845. Branch railway to Granton.
1850-52. Patent slip for repair of vessels of up to 1200 tons.
1879. Granton Gas Works built.
1920. Granton incorporated into the city.
1920. Granton Castle demolished. (Royston Castle)
1936. West Harbour improved as an extension for trawler fleet.
1953-84. Edinburghrock lives in GRANTON.
2003. Granton Blue Gas Tanks demolished.
