| Desert Mountain View in Joshua Tree National Park |
Joshua Tree National Park includes two types of deserts, each determined by their elevation. Below 3,000 feet in the eastern part of the park you will find the Colorado Desert. Here you will find such desert plants as ocotillo, cholla cactus, and creosote bushes. In the higher, wetter areas of the park is the Mojave Desert. It is in this high desert that the Joshua trees for which the park is named are found. I had seen Joshua trees before visiting this park, but had never seen any the size that some of these are. But don’t come just for the Joshua Trees. The park also includes some wonderful rock formations that make this park popular for rock climbers and hikers, as well as five oases with their lovely fan palm trees. Rock climbers especially enjoy the areas that have formations that remind me of huge boulders piled up one on top of the other, towering over our heads like a giant was at play here. |
