When people think of Arizona often the first thing that comes to mind is the Grand Canyon, a truly wonderful and awe-inspiring site. But for me there is so much more of interest in this state. You will find the ruins of ancient cliff dwellers, old missions, beautiful deserts, interesting towns and cities, museums, and of course The Canyon. The lowest point in Arizona is at 70 ft. along the Colorado River. The highest point is the 12,643 ft. Humphrey’s Peak. Within this state you will find a number of Indian Reservations. These are regarded as sovereign nations, making and enforcing laws regarding their land. If you plan to visit a reservation some rules you must be aware of are that alcoholic beverages are prohibited, leaving established roadways and hiking cross country is prohibited unless you have obtained permission from the local tribal office, helmets must be worn if you travel by motorcycle, and seatbelts must be warn if traveling by car. For further information on these reservations contact the Native American Travel Service, phone (480) 945-0771. For additional information on visiting the state of Arizona you may contact the Arizona Office of Tourism at 2702 N. 3rd St., Suite 40155, Phoenix, AZ 85004-4608 or call (888) 520-3434. |
| Me Enjoying a Day in the Grand Canyon |
| | One of the things I enjoy the most while in Arizona is hiking. We usually stay in State or National Park campgrounds, which give us the opportunity of exploring the natural environments of the state. Here I am hiking into the Grand Canyon on January day. |

I loved Monument Valley, Canyon Chelly NM and Petrified Forest, too and sleepy small towns :-) | dshinkle Tue Aug 24, 2004 20:56 UTC What a great Arizona page. You will have to visit Phoenix next time. | mtncorg Fri Jun 25, 2004 17:13 UTC A very nice concise look at the Grand Canyon State and what lies beyond ... that Grand Canyon;-] Watch out for the teddy bear cholla, too. They aren't as cuddly as they look ;-0 | whitecliff62 Sat Aug 2, 2003 05:04 UTC What a detailed and well written page Kimberly, you must have worked really hard on this one. |
